Stove lid/cover storage

Postby Ignas de Grefte » Wed May 21, 2014 1:45 pm

In the category 'stupid questions':
On top of the stove there's a wooden lid, so that if you don't use the stove, you can use it as a tabletop. If you use the stove, you need to remove it. But where do you store it? Given the exceptionally smart way the boat is designed, we would expect it to 'fit' somewhere nicely, but we haven't discovered where. So now we put it on one of the benches, or upright against the drawers under the chart table. Is that really the best way, or is there a more clever solution?

greetings from Holland,

Ignas, this is actually a very good question! Unfortunately, I don't have the answer since the wooden stove cover is currently in our warehouse. In other words, I got tired of having the lid on the way all the time.

That said, I like the idea of having some extra working space in the galley while the stove is not in use. However, in practice we tend to store the kettle and the pan on the stove even while sailing, so I have been reluctant to bring the cover back on board. But I would also be interested to learn, if someone has come up with a cleaver solution for this.

Hi Dan,

Brilliant! Just the type of solution that once seen, you can't imagine that you didn't see it in the first place. dWe'll try it out as soon as we're on the boat again. Sincere thanks from Holland!

Hi
Look here, this Is my way to stow it away.
I split the plate in two pieces and that is great.

Hi
On Mallemuk the stove lid is kept behind the stove where it slides neatly on two curved wooden rails. To me it looks like a piece of original HR Work but easy to copy as a DIY-project. The only downside to the arrangement is that I cannot reach the gas valve when the stove lid is stored in the rails. But the arrangement works really well.
I have removed the stove because it is broken and I am looking for a new one; I'll try to post a photo tomorrow.

Kind Regards, John

A simple and easy solution of keeping the oven lid cover well away while cooking. The only down side is the I cannot reach the gas valve when the oven lid cover is placed here. As seen on the photo I have removed the old Optimus stove since it is broken. Still looking for a replacement!
