Bad luck! Was it a broken or lost bolt that caused the broken mast? And how did you recover the broken parts and return to port? If you are getting a complete new rigging I can recomend a furling mast. I am very pleased with my Selden rig with a furling main sail with vertical battens. Makes sailing a lot easier.
Best of luck!

Hi, thanks for your sypathy,
I löst the bolt because the little security pin was broken...... It was all good taped, but it doesn't helps.
Now I need a new one mast, boom, sail and so on.
The Problem was in the estuary of the river Elbe with lot of container traffic so I have to recover the broken Parts.
It wasn't a nice Job....

Hi Peti,
I am very sorry to hear that! The most important thing is that no one was injured and hopefully Sirkka's deck and hull are not damaged.

This is also a wake up call to remind us all that we check those pins especially as it is still an early season.

Thanks for your good wishes.
The boat is o.k., also the crew. Only small damages on deck and the reling on starboard side. That will be reparied in a good shipyard Sails and rigg are totally damaged. Hope my insurance works good....

Hi Peti,

After reading the account of your misfortune, I checked the attachment points on my shrouds (which were inside protective tubes), only to find that there was a retaining clip missing :(

Thanks for sharing, hope that the mast re-instatement is progressing well and your insurance company is cooperating.

Regards,

Charlie

Sometimes it takes a little time but now everything is ok again. A new mast, boom and mainsail and Jib.
Hope it works good. The insurance was very cooperative.

Hi Peti,

Nice to hear that everything went well with the insurance company and s/y Sirkka is sailing again!

It would be interesting to know, what was the price tag for new rig?

Hi,
Now we are back from a nice trip in Denmark. Everything works fine. The insurance (Pantaenius)has supported us great and settled everything quickly.
The damage amounted around 25000 euros.
Only the rig:
Mast with all fittings 4885,-
Wires 405,-
Furlex104S 1235,-
Boom 945,-
All prices plus tax. We have 19% in Germany
I have the Selden specification of the mast and boom, if somebody is interested in.
So long
