Moved: Leaking opening perspex roof hatch above bow cabin

Postby Hugh.Price » Tue Oct 17, 2017 12:39 pm

I would be grateful for technical advise from a fellow owner on how to remove, re-seal and replace the roof hatch above the bow cabin on my yacht Wild Theme, HR29, 1990, No. 500, berthed at Whitehaven Marina in Cumbria.
I bought the boat in the summer of this year.
I have recently re-caulked the deck where black Sikaflex 290DC caulking was missing, but this has not stopped rainwater slowly dripping from the edge of the wood rim of the hatch above the berth.
Perhaps water is getting in at the edge of the metal hatch frame, although the sealant around the edge looks intact.
Clearly, the hatch needs to be removed and properly re-sealed.
I assume that appropriate sealant is white Sikaflex 291i, which I use for sealing stainless steel deck fittings.

Hi,
I moved this topic to maintenance section, where it is probably more easily found by other forum members.

Unfortunately, I have not experience on removing / re-installing the fore deck hatch.

Leaks can be a bit tricky, as the water can of course travel from further away. I would especially check the area around the fore deck vent. Check out this old topic, where Chris mentioned a bit similar leak from the vent: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=220&p=967&hilit=vent&sid=32edebfae5762dbefd537790808d23a0#p967
