Postby Tentation » Sun Jan 21, 2018 3:31 pm

Hi all,
has somebody installed an opening portlight above the galley area ?
If so, please can you post a photo of your boat .
Thank you

Hi Robert

I have had the same idea about a small port light just above the galley. Great for letting out steam and heat when cooking.
I hope that other members of this forum can share some experience on the matter.

Kind regards,
John

Hi John,
that is exactly what this opening portlight would be for.
Before posting this topic, I checked the all the pictures available on the forum (welcome section) but to no avail , so seem a very rare or never done , modification on the HR29.
Fingers crossed anyway .
Best rgards
Robert

Hi Robert and John,

This is a good idea and I can definitely relate to this problem when cooking on board. I can confirm that it has actually been done before, as I can remember seeing a photo of HR29 with a small (round) opening portlight above the galley. Unfortunately I couldn't find the photo again via Google. It was perhaps on a sales ad some years ago.

Hi Antti, thank you for your support.
So I searched again all the available pictures on the web but...
Then I went to the catalogue of many manufacturers for opening portholes.
I selected two items from Vetus that looks fit for purpose.
http://www.vetusdirect.com/hatches-and- ... n-7-sizes/
http://www.vetusdirect.com/steering-yac ... n-6-sizes/
Made templates from the overall dimensions and went to the boat to have an idea of what would it look like once installed.

Now I guess that the smaller one would be the best choice due to the available flat space available outside but also the way the yard built the boat in this area : Inside it has a flat surface up to the end of the cabin (over the dresser and glasses compartment) but there is a hollow volume between this flat surface and the curved vertical roof surface.
Any opinion there about the selected porthole PM113 ?

aft this orange line the curved surface create is a void volume with regard to the flat inner surface.
