Sailing Down

Postby AdminKSys » Sun May 20, 2018 3:08 pm

Greetings to the HR-forum,

my little family is about to have a long criuse next year.
We are looking for a Hr29 build 90+ no scandinavia.
We have seen several HR29 yet - difficult to decide which is the right one.
My little daughter Leonie is 13 weeks old and we want to use my wifes "Parent-Time" for a long cruise in the adriatic next year.
First I wanted to sail her around Gibraltar to get to the adriatic - but now, I looked sharper, it is not possilble to do that one hand.
It will be the thing that I am on see and my family stays in Frankfurt waiting for me - that was not the Intention...
OK, the closest solution is to take the time it will need to bring the 29 down - the channel way from Netherlands (Antwerpen) to Mediterranian (Port Saint Louis) seems to be the best way.
Now my question: Did anyone allready took that channel way to Mediterranian with a 29?
Törn: Northsee (Antwerpen) -> Maas -> Rhine-Marne Channel -> Moselle > Canal des Vosges -> la Soine -> Rhone
I am not sure if the depth (max. 1.8m) is enough for the 1.6m depth of the 29?
Maximum height for the tunnels will be 3.5m -> should be possible, maybe I transport the mast seperately to the destination.
I am happy to read your intentions,

Hi and welcome on the forum!

I am not aware of HR29s going via channel way.

However, here is a link to a blog by a Finnish family, who did the channel trip with their Vancouver 32: ... -sailboat/

The Vancouver has a bit shallower draft than 29.

Hi Antti,
thank you for your reply, I will look into the link.
I have found another sailor, doing the channel way with a Bavaria 32 (1.60m draft): ... den-meeren
The maximum height of 3.50m should match, if not I transport the mast to the destination Harbour.
At least it is a question of try and error - if it is not working, we have to turn around… The way around Gibraltar is not possible at the moment.
